Artist statement

To summarize my work so far, I think I can divide my artworks into 3 topics. Which is ‘linking and relationship’, ‘indeterminacy’, and ‘reminiscent of life’.

First of all, I’d like to talk about ‘linking and relationship’. In our daily lives, there are a lot of different ordinary objects around us. These objects are usually in different place with their individual functions. But In my works, I re-create these ordinary objects by combining more than two different objects and they become objects that have a new relationship as they are used in a different way than before. Because of these new acquired relationship, they are no longer a passive object but an active object in my works.

Secondly, it is about ‘indeterminacy’. All the things in my works speak for themselves through the juxtaposition so I minimized my intervention in the works. Therefore, I no longer ‘created’ but ‘rearranged’ things in my artworks and the things complete my artworks by themselves.  I only make structures, and the rest of the movement and sound are changed by relationship between the nature force and objects that respond to it. Because of this, ‘indeterminacy’ can be acquired and this is important variable in my works.

Finally, I’d like to talk about ‘reminiscent of life’. Active objects in my works remind me of life activity. I used to sense delicate sounds such as blowing sound from window and delicate vibration of things. These unnoticed sounds resemble the sound of nature because they can also be heard when the surroundings are quiet or when you focus on yourself. Therefore, it is important to know that my artworks not only could be a space where audience can immerse into the space or themselves but also, could be a place to recall about life.
